About Ojas

Ojas Psychotherapy Services was started by Jyotsna Sharan in 2017. Jyotsna is a Massachusetts licensed Psychotherapist and AASECT Certified Sex Therapist, with15 years of experience providing mental health treatment and clinical leadership in various settings in the Greater Boston area. This includes addiction treatment facilities, in-patient psychiatric units, and providing clinical and administrative supervision to teams in high-risk settings. She also served as team leader for outreach teams working with acute and chronically mentally ill persons.

Jyotsna’s curiosity and desire to continuously learn and explore has shaped her dynamic and fluid clinical style. She has trained in many treatment philosophies and draws from both the traditional as well as cutting edge research with all the exciting implications for the future of mental health treatment. She utilizes a blend of Psychodynamic work, Behavioral approaches, and various Systems and Attachment models. Her clinical toolbox is strongly influenced by Yoga and Mindfulness for trauma healing and improving distress tolerance. While she assists and supports clients in problem solving through life’s unique and ever present challenges, she knows the choices in life are often confusing and there is plenty of room to make mistakes and learn from them. Instead of helping you make the “right” decisions, she will help you own your decisions, whatever they might be, and trust in your ability to learn and grow from them all, however the path ahead might look.

Jyotsna specializes in sexual health for couples and individuals, an area she became more interested in midway through her career, when the lack of knowledge and training in sexual health in the field of general mental health work, especially for couples, really troubled her. She thus decided to pursue training and hone her skills. It soon became a passion and a calling, and she has turned her focus since in understanding the various intersections of sexuality with culture, race, religion, gender, disability, age, and of course, sexual orientation. She supports her clients with a variety of issues ranging from sexual dysfunction, desire and intimacy issues, problems with compulsive sexual behaviors, trauma related issues as well as problems related to inconsistent beliefs with their own values and/or those of their community and family systems. She also works with minors over 15 and their families, assisting them in navigating sexual development and age appropriate sex-education, understanding consent, gender identity and orientation, as well as supporting those engaged in the process of gender affirming medical procedures.
